Promoting Literacy in the Classroom: Free 1 hour online training

Learn How to Promote Literacy in the Early Childhood Classroom,
in Support of December's "Read a New Book Month"

December is "Read a New Book Month" and ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI) offers all child care staff the opportunity to learn about the importance of promoting literacy in the early childhood classroom by completing CCEI330 - Books and Beyond: Language Development in Young Children, at no cost!

This one-clock-hour online course provides early childhood professionals with information on the importance of promoting and developing language skills, the stages of language development, and developmentally appropriate classroom activities. Students completing the course will be awarded 0.1 IACET CEUs and receive a certificate of completion.

Early childhood professionals play a critical role in helping the children in their care develop strong language skills. Children have a better chance of developing strong language and early literacy skills when caregivers, both teachers and parents, focus on these areas as early as possible. Language skills developed at a young age directly affect a child's success and happiness at home, in school, and eventually in the workplace.

To take advantage of this opportunity, good during the month of December, child care staff can log in to CCEI's learning management system at http://www.cceionline.com/ and use the promotion code 120109 when prompted.
Teachers who don't have an existing log-in can set one up at http://www.cceionline.com/ by clicking "Take a Sample Course," and when prompted, enter promotion code 120109.
For detailed instructions on how to register, visit http://www.cceionline.com/ and click "Click Here for Current Promotions".

For more information, visit http://www.cceionline.com/ or call 800.499.9907.

*Child Care Network is simply sharing this information, please contact CCEI directly with any questions or concerns.*

Great Start Connect

Dear Child Care Professionals,
Have you heard about Great Start Connect? Great Start Connect is a system of online early learning resources that includes a new statewide child care database. It is a new initiative from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation as part of the Great Start Child Care Quality Project.

We are excited at the possibility that this new database offers you, the provider. Child Care Network previously called you every quarter to get an update for your program, but now, you can access your child care profile 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can update your openings, as they change as well other details about your program. You can even upload photos! All child care referrals are now being done through the Great Start Connect database as well. Parents can log on anytime and view your profile and search for care that meets their needs. Please feel free to share this information with parents and families.

You should have received (or will be receiving) a letter from the ECIC Great Start Child Care Quality Project with a password so you can begin the exciting process of updating your profile. You can visit their website at www.greatstartforkids.org (look for the GS Connect button!)

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us and we will be happy to assist you. Washtenaw, Hillsdale, Monroe & Jackson Counties: Call Candy 734-975-1840 or 800-777-2861 Ext. 29

Stategic Planning...Fun?!

Who knew that strategic planning could be so much fun?
I think in these tough economic times people get discouraged about the future. Talking together and generating ideas on how to impact our future puts people back in control and gives them a sense of purpose.
When we opened up our strategic plan to the community we never imagined the response we would get! More than 50 community members are coming together on March 31st to talk about Child Care Network’s strategic plan. We’ll be getting their bounce on our ideas for sustainability and stability. As a nonprofit we want to hear from them on how we impact their community, benefits they use and what other kinds of services they would like to see us provide.

Child Care Network wishes to thank the staff of Avalon Housing for their donation of $147.00 to the CCN Family Support Program (child care scholarships). In Lieu of doing their annual "Staff Secret Santa" they chose a local non-profit to donate to instead. We are so thankful they chose us!
